2. January 21st, President Jimmy Carter pardons ALL Vietnam War draft evaders.
3. Elvis Presley (age 42) is found dead in Graceland, apparent heart attack.
4. Gary Gilmore is executed by Firing Squad in Utah (the first execution since the death penalty was re-instated in the US)
5. Scientists identify a previously unknown bacterium they call “Legionnaire’s Disease”

7. Jan 16th, Snow falls in Miami Florida (the first in recorded history)
